Three Central Washington University choirs will present their end-of-the-year concert, “Turning Toward the Sun,” on Sunday, May 31, at 4 p.m. in the McIntyre Music Building.

The free event, which will take place in Hertz Concert Hall, features performances by the University Chorale, Lab Choir, and CWU Chamber Choir.

The CWU Chamber Choir is conducted by Dr. Nicole Lamartine and recently performed at the Washington Music Educators Conference, the National College Music Society Conference, and served as headline choral ensemble for the Canada Cantando Festival in Whistler, British Columbia. The choir’s program includes a variety of choral works as well as Andrea Ramsey’s “Imaginary Creatures.” Each piece is set to poetry written by children ages five to nine; children of CWU Music Department faculty will recite these poems before each musical setting.

University Chorale aims to build musicianship and vocal technique through varied programming. The group is conducted by Professor Vijay Singh, with graduate student Soren Engstrom leading one of the pieces.

Lab Choir — which replaced Vox Divina and Wildcat Chorus this quarter — is a non-auditioned group that provides a recital ensemble for two graduating Masters in Choral Conducting students: Maria Maddox and Christopher Lerch. Both students will conduct programs that fulfill their recital requirements for their degrees.

For more information about the event, those interested may contact Dr. Lamartine at Nicole.Lamartine@cwu.edu or 509-963-1616.
