On May 7, 2025, Rep. Newhouse expressed his satisfaction with discussions held during a visit by the Seattle and Portland Chambers to Washington D.C. He stated that they had a “productive conversation about strengthening local economies in the Pacific Northwest, expanding trade opportunities, and Congress’ work to rein in federal spending.” The meeting underscored ongoing efforts to bolster regional economic growth. “Great to hear from the Seattle and Portland Chambers during their D.C. visit.”

Later that day, Newhouse addressed reforms within the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as part of his role on the House Agriculture Committee. He emphasized the committee’s focus on implementing “common-sense reforms to SNAP that crack down on exploited waivers,” aiming to ensure accountability among states for payment standards while safeguarding benefits for those truly in need. “My colleagues and I on the @HouseAgGOP Committee are working to make common-sense reforms to SNAP.”

In another tweet posted on May 7, 2025, Rep. Newhouse announced his collaboration with Rep. Ryan Zinke and the Public Lands Caucus in advocating for conservation policies that balance land protection with public access rights. Dan Newhouse has served in Congress since replacing Doc Hastings in 2015 after previously serving in the Washington House of Representatives from 2003 to 2009. Born in Sunnyside, Washington in 1955, he graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
