Rep. Dan Newhouse, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 4th district since 2015, has been active on social media discussing recent legislative actions and national observances. With a background in agriculture and public service, Newhouse has served both in the U.S. Congress and previously in the Washington House of Representatives.
On May 13, 2025, Rep. Newhouse acknowledged National Police Week by stating that he and his colleagues are working on legislation supporting local law enforcement. He expressed gratitude towards officers for their dedication to community safety, emphasizing the importance of this legislative effort: “This National Police Week, my colleagues and I in Congress are passing common-sense legislation that sends a clear message: we stand with our local law enforcement.”
Two days later, on May 15, 2025, Newhouse celebrated the anniversary of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Quoting President Abraham Lincoln to highlight the value of agriculture, he tweeted: “Happy Birthday to our @USDA! ‘No other human occupation opens so wide a field for the profitable and agreeable combination of labor with cultivated thought, as agriculture.’ – President Abraham Lincoln”
On the same day, Rep. Newhouse also announced reforms related to SNAP and significant aspects of the Farm Bill aimed at reducing government spending. These efforts were described as essential steps toward deficit reduction: “My colleagues and I on @HouseAgGOP have delivered common-sense reforms to SNAP and critical pieces of the Farm Bill in this legislation that will rein in out-of-control spending and make unprecedented strides in reducing the deficit.”
Dan Newhouse was born in Sunnyside, Washington in 1955. He graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977.
