During the first quarter of 2026, Garden Village was the third largest nursing home in Yakima County, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility offered 101 beds, which was 12 more than the Yakima County average for that period. Garden Village had an average daily census of 84.5 residents in the first quarter.

The overall rating for Garden Village from the CMS was 2 out of 5, which was below the Washington state average rating of 3.3 for nursing homes.

Also in Q1 2026, Yakima Valley School had the largest capacity among county facilities, with 112 beds. Good Samaritan Health Care Center was second largest, reporting 105 beds for the quarter.

For the first quarter of 2026, Garden Village accumulated $102,166 across three fines, facing four penalties during that time.

Yakima County, Washington, had three non-profit nursing homes in total.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show the country’s older adult population is growing while the number of younger people declines. The 65-and-older segment rose by 13% between 2020 and 2024, as those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the past hundred years, the older adult population in the United States expanded from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A study published in 2021 estimated nearly 28 million older adults may need long-term services and support, roughly half of the age group. The same research suggests more than one-third could ultimately require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance advocacy organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
