Juried Student Art + Design Exhibition opens May 14 at Sarah Spurgeon Gallery

Central Washington University announced on May 4 that the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery will host the 2026 Juried Student Art + Design Exhibition beginning next week.

The exhibition is an annual event that features student artwork created during the past academic year. It is open to students who have attended classes in the Department of Art + Design. The opening reception will be held in Randall Hall, room 141, on Thursday, May 14, from 5 to 7 p.m., with an award ceremony scheduled for 6 p.m.

This year’s jurors are Leo Andraca and Carly Sheehan. Andraca is a Central Washington University alumnus and currently works as a graphic designer for the Seattle Mariners. Sheehan is a visiting artist and full-time lecturer at the University of Washington specializing in painting, drawing, and printmaking. The jurors will give a talk on Thursday, May 7, from 4 to 5 p.m. in Randall Hall, room 117.

Student awards for this exhibition have been donated by several individuals and organizations including the Student Union Advisory Board; Alumna Jane Orleman; President Jim Wohlpart and Sasha Wohlpart; Professor Emeritus Glen L. Bach; Professor Emerita Cynthia Krieble; Associate Professor Maya Chachava; Dennis and Teresa Francois; Interim Chair Bernadette Jungblut; the Estate of Professor Emerita Margaret Sahlstrand; Professor David Bieloh; Gallery One Visual Arts Center; PUNCH Projects; Shane L. Johnson Illustration; Senior Architect Joanne Hillemann; Associate Professor Justin Colt Beckman; Associate Dean Rachel H. Kirk; and the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery.

The exhibition will remain open through June 6. The gallery hours are weekdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m., closed Sundays, and also closed Memorial Day on Monday, May 25.
