Rep. Dan Newhouse of Washington’s 4th congressional district has issued a statement following the dismissal of Jon Wyss, State Executive Director of the Washington State Farm Service Agency (FSA).

“Jon Wyss has dedicated his career to helping farmers in Washington state, and he has been an asset in making sure we are a leader in the U.S. agriculture industry,” said Rep. Newhouse. “His experience, relationships with producers, and firsthand understanding of the challenges in farm country give producers an ally in the federal government. Jon’s firing is a mistake and a disservice to farmers who need a strong leader at the Farm Service Agency, especially now, when times are tough. I have expressed my concerns with this decision to the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the White House, because Jon was a true advocate for farmers in Washington state.”

Wyss was reappointed as State Executive Director of FSA in May 2025 after having first served beginning in 2019 during the Trump Administration and being re-appointed again under President Biden’s administration in 2022.

Dan Newhouse currently serves as U.S. Representative for Washington’s 4th district since 2015, succeeding Doc Hastings (https://newhouse.house.gov/about/full-biography). He previously held office as a member of the Washington House of Representatives from 2003 to 2009 (https://newhouse.house.gov/about/full-biography). Born in Sunnyside, Washington in 1955, Newhouse is now 67 years old and continues to reside there (https://newhouse.house.gov/about/full-biography). He graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977 (https://newhouse.house.gov/about/full-biography).
