Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA-04) expressed his support following the House of Representatives’ passage of the Fiscal Year 2026 Department of Defense Appropriations Act with a vote tally of 221-209.

“It is no secret that America’s adversaries are hard at work around the world, and House Republicans have delivered critical funding to ensure we maintain the upper hand,” said Rep. Newhouse.

Newhouse further commented, “This legislation invests in next generation aircraft, modernizes our nuclear triad, and supports the Golden Dome initiative to protect us here at home. I am also glad to see a pay raise for our troops alongside pay increases to retain junior servicemembers across our armed forces. I thank Subcommittee Chairman Calvert and full Committee Chairman Cole on their leadership and commitment to keeping national security the priority in this legislation.”

The Defense Appropriations Bill allocates $831.5 billion in discretionary funds, matching the Fiscal Year 2025 level. The bill focuses on military superiority, troop welfare, and border protection.

Military investments include enhancing 5th and 6th generation aircraft like the F-35, F-47, and F/A-XX; modernizing the nuclear triad with systems such as the B-21 Raider; and targeting resources for unmanned aerial systems. Additionally, it invests in national security space programs for real-time global awareness and allocates approximately $13 billion for missile defense.

For servicemembers, a 3.8% basic pay increase effective January 1, 2026 is included along with continued historic pay raises for junior enlisted members from Fiscal Year 2025. The bill aims to improve quality of life by reducing permanent change of station moves.

At the southern border, $1.15 billion is allocated for counter-drug programs, exceeding budget requests by $245 million. Funding for the National Guard Counterdrug Program will be increased as Mexico’s jurisdiction shifts from U.S. Northern Command to U.S. Southern Command.
