Rep. Dan Newhouse, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 4th district since 2015, has recently shared his views on several pressing issues through social media posts. Newhouse, who succeeded Doc Hastings and previously served in the Washington House of Representatives from 2003 to 2009, has been vocal about national security concerns and legislative matters.

On July 8, 2025, Rep. Newhouse expressed concern over foreign ownership of American farmland and proximity to military sites. He emphasized the need for the Secretary of Agriculture to have a role in the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), stating “The threat posed by the CCP owning our farmland and land near military sites can’t be understated. It is long overdue to have the Secretary of Ag have a seat at the CFIUS table, and I look forward to seeing @SecRollins keep the CCP out of our backyard and away from our farms.”

In another post dated July 9, 2025, Newhouse addressed concerns surrounding Medicaid reforms included in H.R. 1. He criticized what he perceives as unnecessary alarmism from political opponents, urging them instead to familiarize themselves with the legislation: “There’s been a lot of fear-mongering lately around Medicaid reforms in H.R. 1. The left is pressing the panic button, when in reality they just need to read the bill.”

Further discussing legislative efforts on July 10, 2025, Rep. Newhouse highlighted key aspects of what he terms “The Big, Beautiful Bill Act.” According to him, this act aims to provide tax relief for working families and small businesses while supporting nuclear energy investments and strengthening agriculture: “The Big, Beautiful Bill Act delivers tax relief for working families and small businesses, protects nuclear energy investments, and strengthens the agriculture industry.”

Dan Newhouse was born in Sunnyside, Washington in 1955 and continues to reside there at age 67. He graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977.
