State Rep. Deb Manjarrez has been named the 2026 Representative of the Year by the Washington State Narcotics Investigators Association, according to an April 30 announcement. The award recognizes her leadership in addressing Washington’s drug crisis and her continued efforts to support law enforcement and public health partnerships.
The recognition is significant as it highlights ongoing concerns about drug use in Washington and emphasizes the importance of collaboration between lawmakers, first responders, and public health professionals.
Manjarrez said, “I am honored to receive this recognition from the Washington State Narcotics Investigators Association. Our state is facing a devastating drug crisis, and those on the front lines see the impact every day. We must do more to support their work and deliver real solutions that save lives and protect our communities.”
During the recent legislative session, Manjarrez focused on House Bill 2168, which aimed to create a statewide overdose mapping and response system for sharing real-time data among first responders. The bill passed both chambers with bipartisan support but did not reach the governor’s desk before adjournment. Manjarrez said she plans to continue working with stakeholders to address concerns related to this policy.
In addition to her legislative work, Manjarrez serves on the Substance Use Recovery Services Advisory Committee where she evaluates policies related to substance use disorder response systems in Washington. Her focus includes prioritizing recovery efforts, accountability measures, and achieving measurable outcomes.
“This recognition reinforces the urgency of the work ahead,” Manjarrez added. “We cannot accept inaction while families across Washington continue to suffer. I will keep pushing for solutions that bring people into recovery, support our communities, and save lives.”
