The City of Yakima recently began seeking input from the local community in developing a Housing Action Plan that is being funded by a $100,000 grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce.
The community housing survey is available in both English and Spanish, according to a press release from the city. The hope of city officials is to identify where the actual need is throughout the community in order to inform how it proceeds with the housing plan.
“Help us develop a great plan by telling us about your housing needs,” Yakima Planning Manager Joseph Calhoun said in the press release. “This plan will support and encourage new housing production for more housing choices and to address local housing needs.”
The primary areas of focus identified by the city include expanding the types of housing and housing opportunities in existing neighborhoods, home ownership for low-to-moderate income families, housing for seniors and housing solutions that help to alleviate homelessness.
