The City of Yakima recently announced that a total of 74 small businesses are receiving $480,000 from the city's small business grant program.
The funds are awarded by a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The CDBG is a Federal program aiming at expanding economic opportunities for people with low to moderate-income brackets. The Yakima City Council approved the funds and are making them available to the smallest businesses in Yakima.
Businesses that qualify can receive payments of up to $10,000 for COVID-19 related expenditures.
The Yakima County Development Association (YCDA) is administering the application process for the city. But the July 31 deadline to apply has already passed.
“The Yakima City Council is to be commended for setting aside these funds to help the City’s smallest businesses during the COVID-19 crisis,” YCDA Executive Director Jonathan Smith said in a press release from the city. “Based on YCDA’s experience with the other grants we have been managing, I anticipate there will be enough dollars to fund all 74 applications.”
