The City of Yakima’s Water Treatment Plant was recently honored by the Washington State Department of Health and awarded the Gold Certificate of Achievement for 10 years of outstanding performance, according to a news release by the city.

The DOH’s Office of Drinking Water presented the award to the plant for meeting the high standards of DOH’s Treatment Optimization Program for 10 continuous years, 2010-2019.

“Yakima is well served by dedicated employees who made this award possible,” City of Yakima Director of Public Works Scott Schafer said in the news release. “Their efforts are commendable and much appreciated.”

The treatment plant also had to meet other strict criteria related to protecting public health to qualify for the award. Only eight treatment plants in the state, including the City of Yakima’s plant, is receiving the Gold Certificate this year.

“Achieving consistently high drinking water quality like this is the mark of a highly dedicated and skilled water department staff,” DOH Office of Drinking Water Director Mike Means said in the news release. “My congratulations for 10 years of outstanding performance.”
