The Yakima Health District will have a new interim health officer.
Larry Jecha will serve as the interim health officer until the district names a permanent replacement.
"Dr. Jecha is a highly regarded health officer, and we are grateful he has agreed to join the Yakima Health District," Yakima Health District Executive Director Andre Fresco said in a Nov. 22 release about the appointment.
Jecha currently works as the Health Officer for the Walla Walla County Department of Community Health. He also serves in Garfield and Columbia Counties, the release said.
"His knowledge of public health principles and experience in serving communities similar to the Yakima valley will prove invaluable in our COVID-19 response," Fresco said in the release.
He served there for 23 years. He spent 23 years in Aerospace Medicine as a Chief Flight Surgeon in the United States Air Force (USAF), the release said.
"I have had great respect and have worked with the Yakima Health District for many years," Jecha said in the release. "I am glad to join the dedicated staff of the District."
