Dear Colleagues,

As you know, we have been working with The Registry to hire an  Interim Vice President for Student Engagement and Success. Today, I am  pleased to announce that we have

secured the services of Dr. Lucha  Ortega, who will join us beginning August 1.

Dr. Ortega brings with her 14 years as Vice President of Student  Services and Associate Vice President of Student Affairs at Shasta  College and Cal State, Monterey Bay. She has

also served as an Interim  Vice President at other institutions over the last few years. Her  highest degrees include an EdD from the University of LaVerne and an EdM  from the

Harvard Graduate School of Education. Thanks to all of you who  provided feedback during this process.

With the departure of Dean Gregg Heinselman, Associate Dean Jenna  Hyatt, and Associate Dean John Vasquez, we will take this opportunity to  make several changes to the

administrative structure in Student  Engagement and Success. Many of you have offered suggestions and your  assistance, which is greatly appreciated. We will meet with the

leadership team in Student Success and Enrollment Management in early  August to gather feedback on a proposed structure. If you have further  thoughts on organizational

structure, please let me know. We will be  reaching out to the directors soon about setting up a meeting.

Please join me in thanking Gregg, Jenna, and John for their  leadership and service to Central Washington University. They have done a  great job over the past year of elevating our

focus on student success.  The year ahead will continue to be a time of clarification and team  building as we lay the foundation for the future.

If you have any thoughts or questions, feel free to contact me anytime.

Sincerely,

A. James Wohlpart

President
