This week marks the start of the 119th Congress, a period notable for being only the third time in 70 years that Republicans have held control over both chambers of Congress and the White House. The previous administration has been criticized for bypassing Congress and using executive power to increase federal influence on taxpayers, small businesses, farmers, ranchers, and other industries while contributing to inflation.

An optimistic outlook is expressed regarding the opportunities this new Congress will present. A representative from Yakima Valley emphasizes his dedication to promoting conservative policies aimed at reducing federal regulatory burdens. He outlines legislative priorities such as lowering taxes for American families, bolstering the American energy sector, reducing federal spending, and securing the southern border against illicit drug trafficking.

The representative announces his return to the House Agriculture Committee alongside his roles on the House Appropriations Committee and the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. A primary focus is passing a five-year Farm Bill to support agricultural producers in Central Washington facing high input costs and regulations. Despite disappointment over previous extensions rather than reauthorizations of this bill, he expresses determination with Republican colleagues to advance it through Congress.

Additionally, plans are revealed for introducing legislation with Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana. This initiative aims to end excessive teleworking by federal agency employees in Washington D.C., which has continued post-pandemic despite significant rent payments for unused office spaces.

In closing remarks, gratitude is extended towards constituents for their trust and commitment is reaffirmed towards delivering resources and investments into Central Washington while supporting rural communities.
