Today, Representative Dan Newhouse of Washington's 4th Congressional District expressed his support for the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025, which has passed in the House of Representatives.

In a statement following the vote, Rep. Newhouse said, “There is no excuse for a biological man being allowed to compete against a biological woman in athletic competitions. Outside of the disgrace for fairness and danger it poses to sports, accepting this idea fails women and girls who work hard to achieve excellence in their sport. I am proud to support this bill to put an end to this unacceptable concept.”

The legislation aims to ensure equal opportunities for women and girls in athletics by mandating that female athletes compete only against other females. It requires Title IX provisions to define sex based on "a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth." Additionally, it prohibits entities receiving federal funding from organizing or supporting athletic programs that allow males to participate in women's sporting events.

The full text of the bill is available for public viewing.
