Today, Representative Dan Newhouse of Washington's 4th Congressional District expressed his stance following the approval of H.R. 1968, known as the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act for 2025. The legislation passed narrowly in a bipartisan vote with 217 in favor and 213 against.
"As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, a continuing resolution is never my first choice in ensuring the federal government remains funded," said Rep. Newhouse. He acknowledged that passing a clean bill for the rest of the fiscal year was necessary to avoid a prolonged government shutdown.
Rep. Newhouse emphasized the importance of maintaining essential government services: "We must prevent pausing the essential services our government provides to those in need." He also highlighted his commitment to collaborating with colleagues on future appropriations processes aimed at strengthening the economy and addressing fiscal concerns.
