More than 100 local businesses received a total of $1.3 million in awards from Yakima for pandemic-specific financial aid, according to the Yakima Herald.
Yakima awarded the 176 local businesses the financial aid after they suffered losses related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The money was funded through the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
In the most recent round of financial aid, 35 of 99 businesses that applied were eligible for aid. Those businesses included barbershops, salons, coffee shops, bars, restaurants, tanning facilities, a dance studio, retail stores and a tattoo parlor, according to the news media.
The city has received a total of 369 applications since starting the program. The grant program closed on Oct. 30. The city council also needs to decide how to use $600,000 in community development block grant funding it also received through the CARES Act.
There were 45 micro-enterprises that received funding through the grant program, according to the news media.
