As the year concludes, a representative from Washington's 4th Congressional District has shared progress on key issues affecting Central Washington. Efforts have focused on addressing the fentanyl crisis, increasing domestic energy production, and reducing economic risks related to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The representative emphasized collaboration with colleagues across party lines for practical solutions.
A member of the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition with the CCP, he led initiatives to counter CCP influence in areas like land ownership and national security. In September, his legislation—the Protecting American Agriculture from Foreign Adversaries Act—was passed by the House. This act involves adding the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to the Committee on Foreign Investment in transactions potentially threatening national security.
The representative highlighted concerns about fentanyl, which is a leading cause of death for individuals aged 18-45 nationwide. He introduced legislation titled "Joint Task Force to Counter Illicit Synthetic Narcotics Act of 2024," aimed at consolidating resources across agencies to combat this issue.
Efforts also included advocating for hydropower as a reliable energy source in Central Washington. The Lower Snake River Dams contribute significantly to renewable energy in the Pacific Northwest but face opposition from current administrative policies supporting dam breaching. The representative expressed optimism that future administrations will recognize their importance.
Constituent services were another focus area, with nearly 2,890 individual cases resolved involving federal agencies like IRS and Social Security Administration. Over $1.5 million was returned to constituents owed by the federal government.
Looking ahead, there is anticipation for collaboration with incoming administration officials to ensure Central Washington remains effectively represented in Congress. Goals include achieving energy dominance and fiscal responsibility while supporting local farmers needing legislative backing through a Farm Bill.
The representative expressed pride in committee assignments for the upcoming Congress term, including roles within several key subcommittees and committees focusing on agriculture, rural development, energy, water development, homeland security, and strategic competition between nations.
He concluded by wishing constituents well during holiday seasons while reaffirming commitment towards representing Washington’s 4th Congressional District effectively moving forward.
