With the help of a state grant, the Klickitat County fairgrounds will serve as temporary COVID-19 housing, according the Goldendale Sentinel.
A Washington state grant made it possible for the agency to secure some recreational trailers and use them as a voluntary sheltering option for those affected by the coronavirus, according to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
Among the first states to be hit with the coronavirus earlier this year, Washington state registered close to 20,000 cases and over 1,000 deaths as of May 22, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Goldendale Sentinel reported that first responders, health care workers, wildland firefighters, Klickitat County residents and non-county residents temporarily working in the county are eligible for housing.
The EOC said, “This service will be completely voluntary and is a great resource that we would not be able to otherwise provide in our rural county,” according to the Goldendale Sentinel.
