The City of Yakima has rolled out $1 million to provide grant relief for small businesses under the federal Coronavirus, Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES ) Act, according to the city website.

Since the funds are provided through a grant, businesses won’t have to pay them back. Companies that are inside of Yakima limits can qualify for a max of $10,000 to cover expenses like rent and mortgage, business insurance, and utilities. Other eligibility qualifications include having a valid business license, in operation for at least a year on Sept. 1, 2020, less than 25 employees, have been impacted by COVID-19 by having to reduce operations or close down altogether.

Companies will be ranked based on the information provided, and money will be distributed based on the ranking. Businesses who are approved will be notified by Friday, Oct. 9th.

At its regular meeting on Sept. 15th, the Yakima City Council green-lighted a plan for the Yakima County Development Association to help out in issuing the funds.
